When should you do cardio

One big question I get asked all the time is when should I do cardio?
First and foremost, cardio can be in any form. Not just jumping on the treadmill for 20 minutes, it could be boxing for an hour, walking the dog, elliptical machine, cycling etc.
The general rule I give people is that cardio timing should be specific to your goal.
If your goal is to run a marathon or some type of endurance competition, then cardio would be your priority.
Likewise, if your goal is to get strong and increase your muscle mass then strength training is your priority.
If you were wondering when is the best time to burn fat, the answer to that question is neither. Focus should be around creating a negative energy balance (calorie deficit) whether it happens before or after strength training, will not matter if you’re in an energy surplus.
Overall, cardio is very important for your cardiovascular system, overall health can help with recovery. So do cardio when you feel happiest doing it.
