Holiday Bark

Shopping for a small holiday gift for someone but have no idea what to give them? You know, for a coworker, family member or your children’s teachers. For a lot of us, online shopping is the way to go. You can shop in your pajamas, not deal with long lines and attitudes. You even get some awesome deals online! But, what if you just don’t know what to buy for the person you’re giving the gift to?

When I use to do event planning, I often would tell my clients that when giving souvenirs or gifts, go with something useful or edible. I mean, how many more unscented candles or cd’s of the bride and groom’s favorite love songs can one have?

Well, the same rule applies to holiday gift giving! Enough of the scarf, hat and glove sets! Or the usual pajamas! Here’s a cute idea that you can make and gift a few people in one batch!

Bark!! Takes a few minutes to make, you can add anything you want, and the kids can join in and help! Break it up and place in a decorative tin lined with pretty holiday colored or themed paper and voila!

Holiday Bark

Ingredients:

1 11-12-ounce bag white, dark, milk, or semi-sweet chocolate chips (about 2 cups)

1 tablespoon vegetable shortening or vegetable oil

Various toppings

Instructions:

Line a 10x15-inch pan or cookie sheet with wax paper.

Place chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl. I like to use a disposable paper bowl or re-usable plastic container for best results. Add shortening or oil. Heat chocolate chips on 50% power in 30 second increments, stirring between each, until melted and smooth.

Spread chocolate into an even layer on the prepared pan. Top with desired toppings.

Chill to set then break into pieces.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 4 days to 2 weeks (depending on the toppings you use; candy toppings last longer than pretzels or cookies, which tend to get stale).
