Meditation Has Helped Me!

Have you ever felt like there are not enough hours in the day? For me, I feel like I never have a chance to catch up! Constantly on the go. I have one child but let me tell you, being the mother of a 7yr old girl who is into art, dance, softball, school and homework is demanding. While being a mother, I work, have started my own health, wellness and fitness business and am currently furthering my studies in sports training. To say I have my hands in many things is an understatement!

When I’m working out or running, I feel like it’s a release. The 1-1/2 hours I have to myself is so precious. It’s my escape from all things real-you know, bills, mommy can you this, honey can you that. And even with all the gym time or miles I’ve put in, I would still feel burnt out.

Burnout is a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed and unable to meet constant demands. As the stress continues, you begin to lose the interest or motivation that led you to take on a certain role in the first place.” – Helpguide.org

I wasn’t until recently, that I discovered the art of mediation. Meditation has been the missing piece in my quest for calm and focus in my hectic life.

Meditation is a practice where an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of

consciousness, either to realize some benefit or for the mind to simply acknowledge its content without becoming identified with that content, or as an end in itself.

The term meditation refers to a broad variety of practices that includes techniques designed to promote relaxation, build internal energy or life force (qi, ki, prana, etc.) and develop compassion, love, patience, generosity, and forgiveness. A particularly ambitious form of meditation aims at effortlessly sustained single-pointed concentration meant to enable its practitioner to enjoy an indestructible sense of well-being while engaging in any life activity”-Wikipedia

You can take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour to meditate. There are so many websites and apps with guided meditations out there. I think it’s a great start for someone who’s unfamiliar with the practice of mediation and is looking for a way to center themselves. My personal favorite is app is Calm or Meditation Studio. I also would recommend trying some essential oils to help relax and prepare you for your meditation. To name a few that I personally use:

Lavender- It activates the crown and heart chakra, clears negative energies and promotes a deep sense of contemplative calm and peace.

Rosewood- enhances meditation, clears the mental and astral bodies and uplifts the spirit.

Sandalwood- Deepens your connection to spirit, opens the mind to inspiration and new ideas, while promoting a deep sense of relaxation and inward attention.

Myrhh- Helps deep meditation by opening the third eye chakra to inner awareness and guidance.

A great site to get these oils is doTerra. I personally signed up as a wellness advocate. These oils are amazing and they have so many different uses. From cooking to topical use. Which I'll talk about in a later blog. To learn more, check out https://www.mydoterra.com/jadesmom/#/

Finding time to meditate has really made a difference in my life. I sleep better, am more focused, self-aware and I manage my stress so much better! I suggest that everyone give mediation a try. I really believe it will make a significant difference in your life.
